Human Bowen Therapy

The Bowen Technique is an effective and painless treatment, gentle enough to be used on new injuries (even over swollen tissue) and it helps improve overall body function, concentration, posture and general health.

The moves activate and trigger a neural response, which stimulate the muscles and soft tissue, prompting the body to reset, repair and re-balance itself.

The Bowen technique originated in Australia and is a dynamic system of soft tissue therapy used in musculo-skeletal and systemic presentations, assisting regulation of the Autonomic Nervous System.

A light cross-fibre manoeuvring of a muscle, tendon, nerves or ligament, is applied to each site of the body, interrupted by ‘breaks’ or ‘waiting periods’ that allows the body to re-hydrate.

Bowen therapy is performed over light clothing and its’ versatility makes it a safe treatment for babies, the elderly and very sick as well as sports people, those with chronic pain and/or acute injuries, especially where other forms of treatment have failed.

Dog's Portrait

Canine Bowen Technique

Canine Bowen Technique is based on the principles of the successful Human Bowen Technique using 'light-touch' moves over muscle, ligament, tendon and/or fascia at specific points of the dog's body.

These gentle yet often powerful moves are interspersed with short breaks to allow the dog's body to assimilate the work and start the healing process of rebalancing and realignment.

Canine Bowen Technique treats the dog as a whole and not specific symptoms, so we do not diagnose, prescribe or alter medications.  It is complementary to and not a substitute for veterinary care and is only available on veterinary referral.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Bowen Technique

1. What makes The Bowen Technique different?

After each set of moves, a few minutes pause is needed where the practitioner steps away from the patient to allow the body to process them.  The moves activate and trigger a neural response, which stimulate the muscles and soft tissue, prompting the body to reset, repair and re-balance itself.

2. Will I need to undress?

No. Treatment is performed through light loose clothing, but please avoid wearing heavy fabrics like jeans as they are not suitable.

3. How many treatments will I need?

THREE to FOUR Treatments are usually recommended (with 7 day intervals in between) to introduce the body to Bowen and establish a healing pattern within the body. It will depend upon your individual condition and how you respond to treatment.  A session can last 20 minutes to 1 hour depending on the work required and every session will begin with a quick assessment.

4. Is Bowen a form of massage?

No. The technique addresses the whole body and it stimulates the body’s own natural healing process. No oils, needles or drugs are used, making it a safe treatment for babies, the elderly and very sick as well as sports people, those with chronic pain and/or acute injuries.

5. How will I feel after my treatment?

You will feel relaxed and probably have more energy. Once the session is over it is important to drink more water than usual and walk regularly.

Depending on your condition, you may experience immediate relief, or a gradual improvement over time. As an added bonus, one of the side effects of Bowen is that other, completely unrelated conditions will often correct themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rapid Transformational Therapy

1. What does the Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) session feel like?

The experience feels different for different people. Some people feel a floating sensation, others may feel sleepy and most people feel relaxed and at ease. What’s most important is to know that how you feel isn’t an indicator of how effective it is. Regardless of what it feels like – it’s working.

2. Can I get “stuck” in hypnosis?

No! That’s an old wives tale. You have complete control the whole time. You can talk, move your body, get a tissue, even get up and leave.

3. How does RTT work?

Hypnosis is not magic – it’s science! It works by creating a burst of brain waves that are the same as when you’re in REM (rapid eye movement). These brain waves allow you to access your subconscious mind. RTT is very easy and anyone can do it, you’ll see for yourself when you do it too!

4. What if I don’t “go deep” enough?

The depth of trance is not linked to results at all. So don’t get stuck on “Am I deep enough?” Just tell yourself the truth – “This is working” and it will absolutely work. Just know that it is effective.

5. What if I go back to scenes that are painful or scary?

If you go back to memories from your life that are related to events like sexual or physical abuse, or other trauma, it’s important to remember that you are not reliving that scene, you are simply reviewing it and you are safe. I will support you and create a safe space for you to express your emotions and heal – you’ll be OK.

6. When will I start to see changes?

There are three types of change from Rapid Transformational Therapy – every person is different:

Immediate: You feel a massive shift right away – immediate changes in your physiology, thoughts and behaviors right in the session.

Incremental: You see consistent shifts every day, or over time.

Retroactive: You don’t see the shifts right away and then one day you suddenly look back and see all of the things that are different in your life.

7. What is the difference between face-to-face and online sessions?

Online sessions are available via Zoom, and this technique is equally as effective as face-to-face sessions. Zoom is a free platform and full instructions will be provided to you when you book your appointment.

9. Are all sessions confidential?

Absolutely! I take confidentiality very seriously and keep all my client records secure.
